Drivers Needed

Silver Streak has an urgent need for volunteer drivers to drive people with vision loss and others who can no longer drive to vital appointments, the store and social gatherings. Help prevent loneliness and isolation. Give those who are less mobile the gift of connection to community. 60¢ per mile reimbursed. Flexible schedule.

There are so many people calling us for help, we can hardly keep up! Please consider volunteering in our Silver Streak office as an Office Assistant to help keep things running smoothly.

HELP A CHILD LEARN TO READ

Reading Partners is a volunteer literacy program in OC public schools (K-3) sponsored by Women's Philanthropy of Jewish Federation & Family Services.  All it takes is just one hour a week to make a huge difference in a child’s life. RE-ENERGIZE SENIORS: Lead a Cooking with Ease Group

We're looking for chefs and nutritionists to lead Cooking with Ease groups for seniors in Irvine. These groups are intended to demonstrate healthy and easy cooking strategies that will motivate senior participants to cook healthy meals and share meals with friends. Give us a call if you are interested in exploring how you can lend your cooking expertise.

Community Opportunities & Support Services

Registration closing soon for Summer 2015 Taglit-Birthright Israel trips!

Created for young adults ages 18-26, Birthright Israel shows you the best of Israel and keeps the excitement going when you come home. You’ll fly from L.A. for free and spend 10 days discovering Israel’s rich history, landmarks, people and culture with peers from Orange County. Discover new meaning in your personal Jewish identity and build your connection to Jewish history and culture.

Choose from one of 2 OC trips departing this summer:

1. The OC Way trip is for participants ages 22-26 from Orange County. The trip, departing from LAX, is from June 21 to July 1 and includes Israeli soldiers as participants on the trip for all 10 days! Click HERE for more info.

2. The Hillel trip is for students ages 18-26 from UCI, CSUF, Chapman, and surrounding community colleges. Click HERE for more info.


Zechter Music Center

Registration deadline is March 31 for FREE musical instrument classes and exciting arts appreciation activities through the Zechter Music Center of JFFS!  The program is open to all Jewish 5th-12th graders across the community. Day school or congregation affiliation not required. Spring Session begins April 15 and concludes June 3. Click here for more info and to register by March 31. 


Passport to Jewish Life® - 2015 Winter/Spring Deadlines

This coming Monday, March 9 at 5pm is the next deadline for Passport to Jewish Life® applications and recommendations, for Jewish summer camp (day or overnight), Maccabi experiences, Israel programs and more. Additional deadlines this spring are April 13 and May 18. Visit our website for guidelines and eligibility info plus online application.

1st Wednesday of each month, 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

A chance to talk about caregiving concerns and issues, and get support from others going through a similar experience.  Information and resources available for various needs. $10 per session. More info

Shpilkes: A Parkinson’s Support Group With a Jewish Perspective
2nd Monday of the month, 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

JFFS and Congregation B’nai Israel have partnered with a community member to start the first Jewish Parkinson’s peer-to-peer support group.  Come to kibitz and build relationships with others in the community who are living, loving and still laughing with Parkinson’s. Free to attend. Interest-Free Small Business Loans

The Milton and Doris Chasin Micro-Enterprise Loan Program of JFFS offers interest-free micro-loans (up to $25,000) for startups or existing small businesses. To begin the process, send your name, contact information and a short description of your business (or business idea) to assist@jffs.org. We'll send you a loan application packet right away!
