Connections - the e-newsletter of Jewish Federatin & Family Services

Our Jewish Community is only as strong as its ability to include and honor people with an array of diverse strengths and abilities

JDAIM LogoFebruary is Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month (JDAIM), a unified effort among Jewish organizations worldwide to raise awareness and foster inclusion of people with disabilities and those who love them. Established in 2009 by the Jewish Special Education International Consortium, JDAIM’s mission is to unite Jewish communities worldwide to raise awareness and champion the rights of all Jews to be included and to participate in all aspects of Jewish life like anyone else. Here in Orange County, we are proud to support people with disabilities through Mandel House, Orange County’s first and only Jewish residential home for adults with special needs, and Silver Streak Transportation, amongst other services we provide. Inclusion elevates us all. Together, we do the extraordinary!

On Sunday, the Israeli Cabinet approved the creation of a permanent egalitarian prayer space at the Western Wall. The historic decision is a dramatic, unprecedented and critical acknowledgement by the State of Israel that Judaism’s holiest site — the Kotel — should incorporate the traditions of the Masorti (Conservative) and Reform streams, in which men and women pray together. It also sends a powerful message to Israelis and Jews across the Diaspora about the permanent value of Jewish pluralism and about what we can do when we work together. We are grateful to the many partners who worked over the past 27 years toward this moment in our collective history, including the Jewish Agency and the Jewish Federations of North America. Create a Jewish Legacy - Year Two

Over 100 people have joined the JFFS Legacy Circle since its inception in 2013. The JFFS Legacy Circle honors individuals and families who have made a gift to JFFS through their wills and estate plans. Members enjoy the satisfaction of knowing their legacy will sustain a vibrant Jewish community for generations to come.

If you have listed Jewish Federation & Family Services, Orange County, as a beneficiary in your estate plan, contact Chelle Friedman at Chelle@JFFS.org to be included in special events designed for JFFS Legacy Circle members.
