In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the culture of consumerism can so often undermine the true meaning of our Hanukkah celebration. In response, there’s been a growing movement in North American Jewry to devote the 6th night of Hanukkah to learning about and addressing poverty. Many choose to donate the value of gifts (or the gifts themselves) that would otherwise be exchanged this night to organizations that assist the poor, either locally or globally.
Tonight, join us in lighting a candle of righteousness so that it may glow brightly for our neighbors in need. Donate today to Jewish Federation & Family Services and know that you will be shining light into the dark corners of our world and bringing care and connection to our community.
Your gift will:
- allow Holocaust survivors to live their lives with dignity;
- send young adults to Israel to ensure the Jewish future;
- empower women over 40 with life challenges to return to the workforce and become financially self-sufficient;
- make the holidays brighter for families and individuals in economic distress;
- transport seniors and people with disabilities, keeping them independent and connected to activities that give life meaning and purpose;
- provide Shabbat, holiday and other engagement opportunities on our college campuses;
- sustain a Jewish residential home for adults with disabilities;
- give counseling support to community members in crisis;
- and so much more.
That is some serious bang for your philanthropic buck, friends!
Make this Festival of Lights a true Festival of Giving by rededicating this night to the Jewish obligation of Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam.
