A female client, age 52, is a recently-widowed mother of two young adult daughters in their 20s. The family suffered an unthinkable tragedy when her husband, the girl's father, was suddenly killed in a horrific car accident for which he was not at fault.
Their friends rallied around the family by contributing to a GoFundMe to help them move forward. But in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, Lifelines lived up to its name, covering the cost of Chevra Kadisha burial preparation (for an overseas burial) and bereavement counseling that was desperately needed for the client and daughters.
We also provided gasoline and grocery gift cards for their immediate needs. The mom wrote, “I can’t thank Jewish Federation enough for being there to help us. We don’t know what we would have done without you. Your emotional support, in addition to the financial help, meant the world to us.”
