Joyce Lieberman

Joyce Lieberman was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1955.  She received her BFA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1977 and MFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981.  Now based in Venice, California, she creates works in several artistic media, including paper and ceramics.  Her “UNStill Life" series features painted works on paper and canvas displaying flower-filled vases in luscious colors with colliding and overlapping pattern. These compositions often defy gravity, proportion and field to deliver a sense of spirited motion.

 

Her work has been displayed in solo exhibits in Santa Monica, Laguna Beach, Ojai, and Palo Alto, and group shows at the University of Judaism, the Colburn School of the Performing Arts and other locations in California.  Nationally, her work has been seen in as solo exhibitions n Chicago, Denver and Ann Arbor, and group shows in Nashville, San Francisco, Phoenix, New Orleans, Atlanta, Dallas and numerous galleries and museum shows in California and Florida.  

 

Joyce Lieberman has been a recipient of honors and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Ford Foundation and several universities.  Among the public collections that feature her work are the William Morris Agency, Ernst & Young, the Beverly Hilton, UCLA Medical Center, Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Southern California Edison, the Governor’s Mansion in Sacramento, Saginaw Art Museum, Albion College, the Hyatt Regency Anaheim, Priscilla Presley Enterprises,  Columbia Pictures,  Peat Marwick & Mitchell, Deloitte Touche, and corporate collections in Hawaii, Chicago  and Las Vegas.
