About the Zechter Music Center

Jewish Federation & Family Services' Sol & Bunny Zechter Music Center is a Connect 2 Learning Initiative launched in January 2012, in partnership with Tarbut V'Torah Community Day School, Pacific Symphony, the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at UCI and the Jewish Community Foundation of Orange County.

And now, as of January 2014, we welcome a NEW partner in the Zechter Music Center -- the Hebrew Academy!  The Academy's campus, in the Huntington Beach/Westminster area, gives students in west and north OC an option to participate closer to home. The Hebrew Academy satellite also offers drums and violin, in addition to keyboard and guitar.  This is the Zechter Music Center's second location, in addition to his central county base in Irvine at Tarbut V'Torah, where keyboard, guitar and wind/brass studies are offered.

The Zechter Music Center offers Jewish youth in our community (5th-12th grade) an extraordinary opportunity - free of charge, thanks to the Zechter family!   Zechter Scholars, as program participants are known, receive:

   * introductory-level classes in guitar, keyboard or wind/brass (at TVT) and guitar, keyboard, drums or violin (at Hebrew Academy)
   * supervised practice (included in the two-hour class period)
   * expert guidance by first-class instructors
   * music appreciation activities that include performances at UCI, Pacific Symphony, Soka University and other venues

Cost: FREE for the first 8 classes/practice sessions. Students can reapply for subsequent sessions if space permits.

Eligibility: Open to all Jewish students in our community currently in 5th to 12th grade, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Keyboards

Violin (Hebrew Academy only):  We advise rental if you do not have your own instrument; and we will connect you with a wonderful resource.
Wind/Brass (TVT only):  We advise rental if you do not have your own instrument, and will connect you with a wonderful resource for rentals.
