Jewish Federation & Family Services proudly announces the launch of the Sol & Bunny Zechter Music Center, a new Connect 2 Learning Initiative, in partnership with Tarbut V'Torah Community Day School, Pacific Symphony and the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at UCI.   The Zechter Music Center will offer Jewish youth in our community an extraordinary opportunity - free of charge, thanks to the Zechter family!   Zechter Scholars, as program participants will be known, will receive:
 
   * 8 introductory-level classes in your choice of guitar, keyboard or a wind or brass instrument
   * 8 supervised practice sessions (included in the two-hour class period)
   * Expert guidance by first-class instructors
   * Music appreciation activities that include concerts at UCI and Pacific Symphony

Cost: FREE for the first 8 classes/practice sessions.

Eligibility: Open to all Jewish students in our community currently in 5th to 12th grade, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Class Size: Limited to 8 participants per class session (guitar, wind/brass); 6 participants per session (keyboard). 

Registration: Online only (see link below), on a first-come, first-served basis.  If applications for a session exceed available space, the student will be placed in the next available session.  Families will receive confirmation of the session.

Class Dates/Times: Classes are held on Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.  The two-hour period includes one hour of instruction and one hour of supervised practice and/or music appreciation activities.  

Session 5 (Winter/Spring 2013) dates are Wednesday, January 30th through Wednesday, March 20th.

Session 6 (Spring 2013) dates are Wednesday, April 10th through Wednesday, June 5th.  Note:  NO CLASS on May 15th (Shavuot).

Fall 2013 dates will be announced later on.

Class Location: Tarbut V'Torah Community Day School, Upper School Music Department, 5 Federation Way on the Samueli Jewish Campus in Irvine.

Transportation: Parents are responsible for arranging on-time student drop-off and pick-up.

Instruments: Keyboards are provided for use during class and supervised practice sessions.  A very limited number of guitars are available for use during class and cannot be taken home.  Therefore, we recommend that students bring their own.  We can connect you with a very good resource for good quality guitars at discount prices.  For wind/brass instruments, we advise rental (we will connect you with the perfect resource) if you do not have your own instrument.
