Frequently-Asked Questions

Did Jewish Federation and Jewish Family Service merge?
YES.  In June 2010, Jewish Federation Orange County and Jewish Family Service of Orange County formed a strategic alliance.  A full merger was unanimously approved by both organizations' Boards in January 2011, and the merger was approved by the California Secretary of State in April 2011.  Today, we are Jewish Federation & Family Services.

Why did the organizations merge?
We merged to bring together our core strengths -- in social service delivery, fundraising, communications and finance -- and in so doing, to provide more services to more people, more efficiently.

What does Jewish Federation & Family Services do?
Our Family Services department provides Lifelines services and programs:  crisis intervention, emergency assistance, support groups, employment/ financial empowerment programs, professional counseling as well as services and programs for people with special needs and their families.   Under the banner of Older Adult Services, our Family Services department also provides a broad range of programs and services for seniors, including Holocaust survivor services and programs, counseling, bereavement groups, care management, consultation, and our SilverStreak senior transportation program.

Our Federation staff team is comprised of campaign, communications, finance, data, planning and outreach professionals who ensure that our programs reach the widest possible audience, that we build community in every aspect of our work, that we offer numerous points of entry for volunteers, and, most importantly, that we raise the funds needed to underpin essential programs and services.

Our lay leadership -- the Board of Jewish Federation & Family Services and its committees -- provides strategic planning, financial and program oversight and, most importantly, ensures that your dollars are spent wisely to deliver first-class services and programs.
